Theresa Balber is a senior scientist and significantly involved in the preclinical and translational research of the LBI:AD, which she joined as a postdoctoral fellow directly after her graduation.
After her initial studies in pharmacy, Theresa specialized in radiopharmacy and worked as a research assistant at the Department for Biomedical Imaging and Image-guided Therapy, Division of Nuclear Medicine, Medical University of Vienna. She obtained her doctoral degree from the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Vienna in March 2019. Her thesis focused on the preclinical evaluation of newly developed PET-tracers and critically addressed the predictive value of several in vitro and in vivo methods regarding a PET-tracer’s performance in humans.
Besides basics in radiochemistry, she is skilled in preclinical testing including imaging, both in vitro and in vivo. The development of new imaging concepts and the improvement of cancer diagnostics raised her enthusiasm to continue her scientific career at the LBI:AD. She recently received funding to work with a PhD student on the establishment and validation of alternative models to animal testing for preclinical imaging. Moreover, Theresa enjoys teaching and supervising undergraduates and is a lecturer at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics, University of Vienna and at the University of Applied Sciences.
